Hind (Brigantine) logbook, 1784-1786.

The logbook of the brigantine Hind details eight shipping voyages from Salem, Mass., Boston and Portsmouth, N.H., to the West Indies, with stops at Antigua, Guadeloupe, Haiti, and Martinique, Jan. 1784-Dec. 1786. The master and logbook keeper was Francis Boardman. The logbook includes notes on birds spotted on the voyages; diseases, specifically scurvy; shipboard occupations; a shipwreck; and the stranding of a ship (the Hind running aground). The Hind spoke the ship Friendship out of Salem during one of its voyages.
